Vietnam immigrant offices set for six-day week

Starting this week, immigration offices will remain open on Saturdays too, Vietnam’s Central Immigrant Department has announced.
In a note issued Thursday, the department instructed the offices to perform all regular work on Saturdays like handling passport applications and issuing visas and waiver certificates for Vietnamese expatriates.
The government recently issued a decree streamlining passport formalities which stated that passports must be issued in not more than eight days’ time.
They would now be valid for a period of 10 years instead of the earlier eight.
Besides, they can now be used for all purposes in place of the ID cards.
Vietnam has waived visas for expatriate Vietnamese since the first of this month, while immigration offices have begun accepting applications and issuing passports via mail since August 15.
